Starting the Helping Hand Animal Pantry was a real challenge and continues to be. I started out with an idea, so we had a garage sale to raise money for our 501c/3. I heard about the pepsirefresh project. I filled out an application and it was accepted fo try for the $5000 grant. People all over the USA voted for us. We won the grant. A house was donated but the City of Gainesville, Texas would not let us put it there. Then a building on a horse ranch was donated but it cost too much to move it over 300 ft. I am now running the food bank in my backyard which is on a side street. We bought a storage/office/work building and put up a sign. We are in business. We have probably already given away over 6000 lbs of horse feed, hay, dog food, cat food and cat litter in the past 6 months.
This project was started to help people in need feed their pets and keep them out of the animal shelters. This project now has three board members, Barbara Dingler, Mary Jo Ray and Judy Hurst. We have received our 501c/3. The animal food bank has had many obstacles in the way. So far, They have been overcome. We invite anyone to visit our website and the board encourages you to start an animal pantry in your city.
